THE PROBLEM

Rockhampton Management faced a significant challenge in establishing a brand that truly conveyed their extensive experience and reputation for reliability in the investment sector. They needed to highlight their unique proposition as sector specialists while also emphasising their commitment to personalised investment services and conscientious investing. Additionally, they sought to draw attention to the philanthropic und, they run, aimed at helping students with limited access to education.

To overcome these challenges, Rockhampton Management turned to Helicopter Creative for assistance in developing a cohesive branding strategy for their investment fund to drive growth in new markets and create a complementary sister brand that would effectively communicate their philanthropic initiatives.

We embarked on a process to captured the essence of Rockhampton, including interactive workshops, in-depth interviews and more.

THE DEVELOPMENT

Our research revealed that Rockhampton Management takes pride in optimising short- and long-term investment strategies, leveraging their sector specialists—who blend global thinking with deep-rooted local knowledge—to achieve alpha and maintain a client-centric approach. These elements became the cornerstone of our positioning strategy. We also found that they preferred a more understated and elegant style for the brand, aligning with their results-first, humble, and collaborative workplace culture.

THE SOLUTION

The visual language of the brand combines elements to reflect the Japanese, Chinese and Australian heritage of the fund. We utilised patterns commonly found in Japanese Zen gardens and decorative designs used across various Asian cultures to develop a design style that best reflects Rockhampton’s values and identity and pairs well with the overall brand. The website is intended to be visually sophisticated, while also conveying a sense of calm and tranquility that is associated with Japanese design.

The new brand design draws shape and colour inspiration from the natural landscape of Rockhampton, QLD, where the founder grew up, to capture the organisation’s identity and values conceptually.

The logo is timeless and modern, featuring calming organic line-work and a bold, uppercase font that conveys strength and stability. Within the logo, the triangle shape symbolises the pursuit of alpha, reinforcing a key value for Rockhampton Management while incorporating an abstract graphic that signifies growth and long-term investment.

Waves (Seigaiha)

This pattern evokes wealth, resilience and the calm quietness of the sea.

Vertical waves (Tatewaku)

This pattern evokes the calm, these vertical waves evoke mist and steam, going up to sky, namely in spring. And by this way, the capacity to rise above the events happening around oneself.

Winding plant (Karakusa)

Vines stretch out of the pattern in all directions like a grapevine, representing longevity and prosperity.

Mesh (Amime)

Amime is named after the mesh of a fishing net — seen as a symbol of luck for fruitful fishing. It represents wealth and prosperity.

THE WEBSITE

We carried the new visual identity into the website design, creating a modern, responsive website that is easy to navigate and reflects the Rockhampton Management brand. The website features a clean, white background emphasising the brand’s bold typography and imagery. It also features clear calls-to-action and well-structured content to help potential clients understand Rockhampton Management’s services and investment strategies.

The result was a brand and website that accurately represents Rockhampton Management’s core values and differentiates them from their competitors. The new visual identity and website have helped Rockhampton Management stand out in a highly competitive industry and have helped them attract new clients who share their long-term investment philosophy.

THE CHARITY

The Rockhampton brand was thoughtfully extended to encompass its philanthropic endeavours, highlighting the company’s commitment to giving back. Helicopter Creative named the program *The Fitzroy Philanthropic Fund* and crafted the inspiring mantra: *Learn, Earn, and Return.* This encapsulated the program’s mission to empower children through education and opportunity. Drawing from Rockhampton’s established identity, the new brand language introduced a vibrant and energetic design palette. The dynamic colours and playful visuals reflected the joy and potential of the children the fund supports while maintaining a cohesive connection to Rockhampton’s core values. This creative approach beautifully communicated the program’s promise and the transformative impact of its initiatives.
